The provence is full of typical houses, with specific architectural characteristics, built by adapting to the natural issues surrounding them.
The bastide (Master’s House) is a beautiful secondary residence both an agricultural estate and a holiday resort. It was oriented to protect it from the mistral. The elite owned a particular hotel in the city and a secondary home in the country, with the primary vocation of growing olive trees and vines. Today, this bastides have been reconverted into public or private establishments, hospitals, social or cultural centres, museums, youth hostels, retirement homes, religious establishments or public parks. There are only 250 of the 5,000 bastides in 1807.
The fisherman’s cottage, formely without electricity and water, privileged the convivialité and the back to the source, its was considered like modest’s houses. It’s completely different today.
